My name is Amanda, I’m a certified sweet tooth, chocolate lover, and carboholic. I started my baking business with the goal of bringing joy & comfort to all our customers.
Originally from Mississippi, I grew up surrounded by the most delicious homemade pies, sheet cakes, cupcakes, and everything scrumptious. Dessert was always at the forefront – we would have local “dessert auctions” to raise money for different causes, and sweets after every sporting event to congratulate us on a good game. I inherited a crippling sweet tooth from my grandfather. After dinner, he would find the most decadent, rich (usually chocolate) dessert and we would split it. At a young age, I knew I wanted to be able to make my own treats so he and I could share those moments any time we wanted – not just on special occasions.
I moved to DC almost 10 years ago, where I built a successful career in finance. But nearly every free moment I had was happily spent baking, or trying new treats. I’ve always valued flavor over aesthetic, and I particularly cherish those nostalgic, comforting desserts that return me to my early years as the young girl in Mississippi who believed a good dessert could solve any problem.
We all deserve an indulgence here and there – whether it be the dessert we share with friends or family on a special occasion, the sweet snack to satisfy a craving, or even the little treat we provide ourselves to get us through long days. Our creations at Murff’s Bakery aim to help make those moments a little more special and a lot more scrumptious.
